Dog training that is Private, Personalized, and Committed so every day is your dog’s best day!

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide your dog with a fun training experience that not only enhances their skills but also strengthens the bond between you and your furry companion.

What We Do

At Smerbeck Training, we specialize in private, in-home basic obedience training that emphasizes high owner participation and positive reinforcement for the best results. We're all about unlocking your dog's natural desire to impress and make you smile through a pawsitively joyful experience! That’s why each session is tailored to your dog's comfort level and unique learning speed. We take pride in transparent communication with dog owners, providing detailed demonstrations, valuable insights into your dog's behaviors, and proactive warnings about potential issues.

Why Positive Reinforcement?

We rely on positive reinforcement as our primary training method. Our approach encourages good behaviors through rewarding because learning should be fun! It is also proven to be highly effective and adaptable to various situations. Worried about over-treating? We'll show you that rewards don't always mean treats – we've got a whole playbook of ways to keep tails wagging and tummies in check.

Command List:

  • Sit - Teach your dog to sit on command. This basic command is useful in various situations and helps your dog understand and follow instructions.

  • Stay - Train your dog to stay in one place until given the signal to move. This command is crucial for keeping your dog safe and well-behaved in different environments.

  • Lie Down - Teaching your dog to lie down on command is another essential obedience behavior. It's useful for calming your dog and keeping them under control.

  • Come - The recall command is vital for your dog's safety. Teach your dog to come when called, reinforcing a strong bond and ensuring they respond in potentially dangerous situations.

  • Leave It/Drop It - This command helps prevent your dog from picking up or holding onto items they shouldn't, promoting safety and preventing destructive behavior.

  • Heel/Walk Nicely on a Leash - Train your dog to walk beside you without pulling on the leash. This behavior is not only polite but also ensures a pleasant and safe walking experience for both you and your dog.

  • Wait/Stay at Doors - Teaching your dog to wait or stay at doors until given permission to enter or exit prevents rushing and bolting, keeping everyone safe.

  • Focus/Watch Me - Getting your dog's attention on command is valuable for redirecting their focus and maintaining control in distracting environments.

  • Off - Train your dog to get off furniture or people when asked. This command is essential for establishing boundaries and promoting good manners.

  • No Jumping - Discourage jumping up on people by teaching your dog to keep all four paws on the ground. This behavior is particularly important for social interactions.

  • Wait for Food - Train your dog to wait patiently for their food until given the signal to start eating. This behavior promotes impulse control and prevents food-related aggression.

Flexible Scheduling

Our flexible time slots include evenings and weekends, making scheduling easy and convenient for you.

Get started with an evaluation!

For all new clients, an evaluation session is required. This session, priced at $30, allows for a proper introduction, assessment of your dog, and goal-setting. At the end of the evaluation, you can decide whether to move forward with training.

What to Expect:

Our weekly one-hour sessions require dog owners to be present. The trainer will explain and demonstrate exercises, monitor your dog's progress, provide feedback, and answer any questions. By the end of each session, you'll know how to practice exercises throughout the week, fostering wanted behaviors in your dog and improving your communication with them.
